It was my husband’s birthday last week and I wanted to do something special from the moment he woke up! I make breakfast most weekends, so it was hard to think of something different and special to do for him. I have done pancakes, eggs, waffles, french toast, you name it and we have had it in the past month or two πŸ™‚

I made the batter and poured a spoonful into a separate bowl, this would later be the “sprinkle” pancake. Although Danny does love sweets, I didn’t want to overdo the birthday theme and have this taste more like a cake so early in the morning! I just mixed a few sprinkles into the pancake that ended up on top, added a spoonful of whipped cream, sprinkled some powdered sugar, and voila! I thought it came out pretty festive!

I am working on my baking and cooking, and I definately think it has improved over the years; however, singing “Happy Birthday” is the next thing I might want to work on πŸ™‚

The one, the only, Meg mcmuffin!


I love breakfast sandwiches. I honestly went through this phase in college when I would order bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant because A) it tasted wonderful and B) I thought it was healthier. Shows how skewed my health perception was! Anyway, I got through that phase and every now and then I still like to order a good bacon egg and cheese on a bagel or roll on a Saturday morning (shout out to spring street deli!!)

However, when I have the urge for one of these creations while at home, I like to make what is now referred to ad the “Meg McMuffin.” I have made it for my husband, my sister, my mom and my friends. I think my stepdad Dave is still nervous to try anything I make because he knows my cooking skills started off pretty rocky. I’ll get him one day!!

So this simple creation is just bacon, Β an over easy egg and a slice of American cheese on a toasted English muffin. I prefer adding pepper and shredded manchango cheese to mine for a little more flavor:)

California love!


Let’s hold on to summer as long as we can by trying this west coast omelette at Louie’s Place. This omelette is made with tomatoes, Monterey jack cheese, salsa, avocado and sour cream. YUM! Also served with homemade home fries and toast. A pretty filling breakfast but satisfying in both appearance and taste:)

Sunday fun day at agozar


Let’s just start with the fact that I am really excited about sharing this new brunch spot with everyone! (new to me.) Algozar Cuban Restaurant offers an incredible brunch with plenty of options as far as meals and unlimited sangria for 2 hours all at a great price! The fact that I was in great company and it was a gorgeous day weather wise only added to the perfection of the experience.

I went with the “not so classic” Eggs Benedict that consisted of Spanish Ham, poached eggs, Cuban bread and chipolte hollandaise sauce. Amazing.

It was also served with a small salad and yuca fries. The sangria special was definitely worth it as well πŸ™‚

Keeping it simple


I think I have mentioned before how I am not a huge breakfast fan. I remember one time my sister and I mentioned to our mom how we liked ego waffles and next thing we knew, our whole freezer was stuffed with ego boxes. Of course after eating egos for two weeks each morning, we got tired of them! And there were still about 6 boxes we had to go through.

Everyone goes through phases of liking and not liking foods but this picture is of my most recent breakfast phases: a simple egg over easy on toast topped with shredded manchango cheese. It literally takes about 4 minutes to prepare, less time to eat and that means I have more time to sleep in!

Doesn’t food just seem to taste better when it is in a shape or better yet, spells out a message? πŸ™‚ I made these a few months ago when Danny was sick. We have fallen into a routine of having pancakes every Saturday morning and I figured this would be something a little different! I would like to point out that I do not have any letter-cookie cutters, hence the free style shape of each pancake…but it’s the thought that counts, right? I do love trying new things with pancakes (chocolate chips, peanut butter, etc) and he likes just plain buttermilk. I think I am going to get some cookie cutters so I can make different shaped pancakes in the future. What is your way of spinning a creative twist on pancakes?

My sister is amazing in the kitchen! She is always coming up with something new and that’s one of the many reasons as to why I admire her so much! Plus it’s a pretty fair system: she cooks and I can sample things:) The only thing is that I’m living in north jersey and she’s in south jersey at culinary school. I only get to taste her latest creations when we are both home or when we visit each other.

Anyway! This is Breakfast Bruchetta. Eggs, mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and fresh basil. It is light, yet so satisfying!

Well I’m back to report on the new restaurant in Allendale, Louie’s Place! This breakfast dish is going to be big! Texas toast sized French toast stuffed with Brie cheese and covered in banana almond syrup. Seriously an amazing combination of flavors and textures and I don’t even know how people come up with this stuff! I’m excited to try to make my own variation at home sometime… But for now I’ll just recommend people go get the real deal there!:)
